I enjoy playing around with different colour application methods in my illustrations. 

With these pieces, I had used the method of working with up to 4 tints and shades of a colour. I am not a strong painter but used a similar technique of creating the illusion of paint application like a painter would on a canvas with a thick flat paintbrush.
